Apple Software Update on my Windows 10 computer popped up today with this notice to install an new version of the iTunes software. The notes say: “This update adds support for iOS 13 and iPadOS devices.” Yay!! So after updating iTunes on my computer, it is ready to install the latest operating system on my phone when it becomes available.
Apples update servers are going to be busy distributing iOS 13 starting Thursday Sept. 19, 2019. To check for updates on your phone, go into the “Settings” app, select “General” and tap on “Software Update”. Your phone will check to see whether the update is available for download and if so, you will have the opportunity to download and update. Note that iOS 13 is available for iPhone versions 6S, 6S Plus and newer (available since Sept. 2015).
Remember that we install operating system updates to have the latest security updates and also to obtain new features available for our devices.
The new operating system for iPads, iPadOS, will be available for iPads on Sept. 30. Check your iPad for operating system updates with the same steps as your phone: go into the “Settings” app, select “General” and tap on “Software Update”.
A web search will turn up lots of articles about the features of the new operating systems. The new phones to take the best advantage of this operating system will be available starting Sept. 20. These phones are version 11 of the iPhone with model names: iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. If you are in the market, they can be pre-ordered now.
