The work environment can present a variety of hazards, from paper cuts to dangerous heavy equipment, and sometimes difficult people around us. In these sessions we consider various topics from how to manage health issues in the workplace, to our legal responsibilities for health and safety.

Health and Safety Management

  • Description: This course covers all the health and safety program elements and its new legislative requirements. After completing this course, you will: 
    • Understand how safety performance directly affects costs of organizations as well as the industries.
    • Identify the recent safety gains made in the industries, as well as attitudinal shifts with regard to safety.
    • Learn the legal role of the leader as an “employer” and the significance of due diligence. 
    • Review the key concepts in the new Canadian OHS Law especially the role of Health and Safety Committee in all the industries. 
    • Understand hazard assessment, workplace inspections and incident investigations processes and legislative requirements.
    • Learn how to apply the Root Cause Analysis methodologies in Health and Safety.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

  • Description: In this session we will learn various techniques designed for use in investigating and categorizing the root causes of events with safety, health, environmental, quality, reliability and production impacts.  Root Cause Analysis is a tool designed to help identify not only what and how an event occurred, but also why it happened. Only when investigators are able to determine why an event or failure occurred, will they be able to specify workable corrective measures, that prevent future events of the type previously observed.

Hazard Assessment

  • Description: In this course you will gain an understanding of the hazard assessment process which is the foundation of any Health and Safety management system. The hazard assessment process must be conducted properly to ensure existing and potential health and safety hazards are identified, controlled and/or eliminated.

Workplace Inspections

  • Description: This course focuses on learning how to implement and evaluate the workplace inspection process, and determine if it meets legislative requirements. You will learn how the role of all work site parties, especially the Health and Safety Committee, fits into work site inspections.

Incident Investigations

  • Description: In this course we learn how to conduct an incident investigation and put appropriate control measures into place, to prevent repetitive/recurrent incidents. Incident investigation is the only reactive Health and Safety activity. However, when an incident happens, an effective health and safety program creates an opportunity to learn from incidents by determining the factors that led to the incident and then correcting them.

Harassment and Bullying

  • Description: This course explains signs of harassment and bullying and teaches techniques to minimize the effects of harassment, bullying and cyber-bullying. In recent years, harassment and bullying in the workplace has gained greater awareness than ever before.  In 2018 the OHS Code was expanded to include harassment and bullying as a hazard, and the requirement for prevention plans for harassment. These plans must include prevention policies and procedures, with mandated elements such as measures the employer will take to eliminate or, if that is not reasonably practicable, control the hazard of harassment to workers.

Mental Health and Wellness

  • Description: This session discusses the four mental health dimensions that can influence your organizational environment and how you can achieve mental fitness.

Managing Violence

  • Description: This course will empower you to develop a workplace violence prevention program using generated organizational evidence. In 2018 the OHS Code expanded to include violence as a hazard and the requirement for prevention plans for violence.  These plans must include prevention policies and procedures with mandated elements such as measures the employer will take to eliminate or, if that is not reasonably practicable, control the hazard of violence to workers.
