Computers are extremely powerful devices, allowing us to do a very wide range of tasks. This power comes with complexity, and we need to learn some things to become comfortable and productive with the computer, and some of the software available on the devices. Our workshops present some theoretical knowledge which is then applied with exercises to reinforce the material.

MS Office: General Overview of Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Description: The Microsoft Office Suite includes a set of tools that allows clients to create and change documents, prepare presentations, and do analysis of large amounts of numerical data. We will discuss basic elements of the suite, including the ribbon and commands common to the tools. We will briefly look and discuss each of following packages: Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Computer Skills for Employment – Level 1

  • Description: This session provides an introduction to the Windows 10 operating system. The Windows 10 user interface is discussed along with some configuration options. We then move to the Microsoft Office Suite, which includes a set of tools that allow clients to create and change documents, prepare presentations, and do analysis of numerical data. We will discuss basic elements of the suite, including the ribbon and commands common to the tools. We will learn to use each of following packages: Word (documents), Excel (spreadsheets) and Outlook (email, calendars and contacts). On completion of this course, participants will be comfortable with all the fundamental skills in Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Audience: People new to using computers.

Computer Skills for Employment – Level 2

  • Description: Continuing on from Level 1 of Computer Skills for Employment, this session dives deeper into the Windows 10 operating system. We will continue by discussing the Microsoft Office Suite. In MS Word we will learn how to insert tables and charts, how to customize formats using styles and themes; how to use images and create custom graphic elements. We then move to MS Excel where we will create and use advanced formulas, analyze data, organize worksheet data with tables, sort and filter data, modify and format charts and insert graphics. Finally we will create and save several MS PowerPoint presentations, which will incorporate text, images, shapes, tables and charts. On completion of this course participants will be comfortable, at an intermediate level, with each of following packages: Word (documents), Excel (spreadsheets), PowerPoint (presentations) and Outlook (email, calendars and contacts).
  • Audience: People that are comfortable with computer skills at a basic level.

Computer Skills for Employment – Level 3

  • Description: This session builds on material presented in Levels 1 and 2. Participants will work through various projects using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills they learned during the previous levels. We will be developing solutions to projects either introduced in class or chosen by the client.

MS Word 2016, 2019, O365: Level 1 / Getting Started

  • Description:  In this 1-day course you will learn how to use Microsoft Word so you can create, format, edit and save your own documents. We will cover the basics of formatting fonts, paragraphs and using styles. We will also be covering the basic commands on all the Tabs, including Spelling & Grammar, and using the Thesaurus.
  • Audience: Users comfortable with computer usage.
  • Duration: 1 day

MS Word 2016, 2019, O365: Level 2 / Intermediate

  • Description: This sessions’s focus is on a more advanced selection of Microsoft Word features than level 1. We will discuss how to insert tables and charts, how to customize formats using styles and themes, how to use images and create custom graphic elements.  We will also explore the use of tools like templates and mail merge. In level two we consider longer documents and the tools that are needed to work with them.

MS Word 2016, 2019, O365: Level 3 / Advanced

  • Description: In this course we will explore how your team can collaborate on documents and manage the document versions. As with Level 2 we will concentrate on longer documents. We will also discuss how to use the commands on the Reference Tab which includes, Bibliographies, Footnotes, Citations and Table of Contents. We will also look at Comments and how to create forms.
  • Audience: Experienced users of Microsoft Word documents.
  • Duration: 1 day

MS Word 2016, 2019, O365: Working with Images

  • Description: Using Word for image manipulation. Word in not a full image processing program, but it is able to do many cool and useful image manipulation tasks. This includes removing Backgrounds and creating Artistic Effects. We will use these image commands as a base for creating flyers and event posters.
  • Audience: People with intermediate knowledge of MS Word.
  • Duration: 4 hours in total

MS Excel 2016, 2019, O365: Level 1 /Getting Started

  • Description: This course explains the use of spreadsheets and how to create and edit them. This includes an overview of the user interface elements such as the ribbon, status bar, etc.  We will also explore how to create and insert functions in a worksheet, manipulate data, format a worksheet, and create, modify and format charts.
  • Audience: Users comfortable with computer usage.

MS Excel 2016, 2019, O365 : Level 2 / Intermediate

  • Description: This course focuses on a more advanced selection of Excel features than Level 1. We will discuss how to create and use advanced formulas, analyze data, organize worksheet data with tables, sort and filter data, modify and format charts, and insert graphics. We will consider some specific function such as PMT and IF.
  • Audience: Users comfortable with Excel spreadsheets.

MS Excel 2016, 2019, O365 : Level 3 / Advanced

  • Description:
  • In this course you will learn how to customize your workbooks with comments, hyperlinks, watermarks and background pictures. We will discuss how to apply conditional formatting, how to add data validation criteria and how to manage themes, use templates and protect your files. In this course we will also introduce data analysis with PivotTables, Slicers, and Pivot Charts, as well as Macros.
  • Audience: Experienced users of Excel spreadsheets.

MS Excel: Focus On Creating Budgets and Invoices

  • Description: In this course you will learn how to create, edit and format a simple spreadsheet. The goal will be to create both an example budget and an example invoice. Beyond formatting we will also look at a few simple formulas and the SUM function.
  • Audience: Users comfortable with computer usage, and a basic understanding of the Excel interface.
  • Duration: 4 hours

MS Excel: Focus on Formulas

  • Description: This course starts with a very brief overview of the basic tasks of editing and formatting a simple spreadsheet. The main focus will be to look at creating formulas. You will learn how to add, subtract, multiply and divide values. You will also learn how to use the built-in functions: SUM, AVERAGE, MIN and MAX and other examples as time permits.
  • Audience: Users with a basic comfort level of Excel.
  • Duration: 4 hours

MS PowerPoint 2016, 2019, O365: Level 1 / Getting Started

  • Description: In this course we will begin with an overview of the PowerPoint interface. Then we will look at creating, deleting and reordering slides, adding text and images, changing slide formats and selecting fonts and text styles. We will discuss very basic presentation tasks and techniques. 
  • Audience: Participants should be comfortable with computer use.

MS PowerPoint 2016, 2019, O365: Level 2-3 / Intermediate-Advanced

  • Description: In this course you will learn how to animate objects within slides, and include transitions between slides to create dynamic presentations. We will introduce the Master Slide concept and formatting of the entire presentation through the Master slide and how to import content from external sources like Word and Excel, and use other tools such as WordArt and SmartArt. We will also look at how to collaborate on a presentation, customize a slide show and secure a presentation.
